The inspiration for this article is from three public spelling mistakes I saw recently in the same day. I found myself pondering these mistakes more than usual, because arguably they were only minor misdemeanours. Surely the only people to notice them would be people like me – you know, the word nerds, the spelling police – the people who take delight in finding a mistake and correcting it. So if we’re the only people to notice, does it really matter?
I DO have a writing cave. For many years, I shared a very nice in-home office with my husband but when my son left for college, I pretty much confiscated his space. He has a gorgeous room, complete with desk and computer, so I took it over and never looked back. It’s a cozy room with a cherry sleigh bed that features a big silk palm tree behind it, a beautiful armoire holds television/music and shelving for my books. My writing desk is oak and tends to be the messiest part of the room. Along with my ever-present legal pad, pens, and stuff, I have my peppermints, hand cream, and assorted junk. A MESS. One of my favorite things in the room is a print of little boys playing baseball. We bought this for my son when he was young and it hangs over my desk. It reminds me of him so, naturally, I love it.
You can communicate announcements. If your church has a twdown address and a Facebook Page (and it should have both) post your announcements on that feed. You can post them when they are timely instead of just on Sunday. Instead of announcing the Youth meeting on Sunday that happens on Friday you can post it three times during the week so that all have a chance of seeing it. And, bonus, the unchurched who are “fans” of your page (and you will have many) will get to see what your church is doing as well. You have a witnessing tool just by making announcements!
Age is a mindset. Now that people are single well into their thirties or forties, it’s time to rethink your dating age restrictions. If someone takes care of himself or herself, is happy, healthy, and attractive, don’t dismiss them just because they may be a few years older than what you pictured. Expand your search.
Time is your most valuable asset and the most precious resource you have. A lot of entrepreneurs want to develop a business hoping that it will buy them more time as they have the opportunity to become financially independent and no longer have to work because their money is working for them. However, the truth is that you cannot buy more time, you can only manage your time. For entrepreneurs and business owners not to include the cost of your time in the business building expense equation is one of the most easily forgotten costs there are.
“Brits are obsessed by the weather, so it’s not surprising sunshine was rated as the top thing we couldn’t live without. But to say you can’t live without material things over drinking water is crazy.”- Sarah Richardson, Science Museum Exhibition Manager.
